National Development Council

Registration for NSP Underwriting Trainings:
Home Ownership Finance and Rental Housing Development Finance

HUD is pleased to announce the availability of two of the National Development Council’s (NDC) underwriting training sessions in a community near you! The training sessions are open to all NSP grantees at no cost as part of HUD’s technical assistance effort. Grantees need only pay any related travel costs.

The four-day HD410 – Home Ownership Finance and five-day HD420 – Rental Housing Development Finance courses will equip NSP grantees with permanent, self-sustaining skills to engage in the development of affordable housing and address issues related to foreclosure and abandonment in their communities. NDC will impart the financial and deal structuring skills that grantees need to turn affordable housing development opportunities into accomplishments. The training sessions will build capacity to support affordable housing development in highly distressed areas.

Participants will learn:

  • All the steps of the housing development process;
  • Techniques used to analyze and structure financing for home ownership and rental housing deals; and
  • The problem solving and negotiating skills that are needed to make complicated deals feasible.

Topics include the housing development process, Historic Rehabilitation and Low-Income Housing Tax Credits, negotiating, problem solving, and deal structuring, among others. Click here for the HD410 – Home Ownership Finance agenda or here for the HD420 – Rental Housing Development Finance agenda.

Please note that although the course is being offered at no cost to grantees, normal tuition costs are $920 and 1,150.

Certificates will be provided to participants who attend every day of the scheduled training and complete the exam at the conclusion of the course.

Training sessions are designed to accommodate up to 50 participants. Space is limited and is available on a first-come first-served basis. When the class registration is full, applicants will be added to a waiting list and confirmed one week prior to the start of the registered course, if space is available.
